Since the beginning of the recession a rat race has begun online bringing the smartest and best minds to work. Millions of people all over the world begin attempts at making money online and usually fail. What separates these people from those that are actually able to make a stable living for themselves? Well I have spent a couple years attempting to decipher the differences between those that make it online form those who fail and I have unearthed the biggest mistake that new webmasters/bloggers make when they begin their endeavors to make a business online.
The mistake that 97% of webmasters/blogger make when attempting to make it online is they believe working online is the same as a conventional job. What this means is people new to online business think that they will get paid automatically for the work they put in. For example if they spend ten hours working on their website or blog in a conventional sense this would make them a certain amount of money. Well online ten hours at the beginning of a website or blog is just building a foundation and usually make them nothing. For those that are new this is something they will have to understand if they want to ever make it online. The first year of a websites life is building a web presence and learning the ins and outs of marketing online which of course is always changing so even after that year it is a good idea to keep checking into the webmaster forums seeing what new ideas webmasters are coming up with to market. This being said do not give up your job when you first start. Begin by reading and reading whether it is articles at ezinearticles.com about making money and blogging or going over the posts at forums.digitalpoint.com and asking experienced webmasters how long before they began making money with their projects. If you utilize these two resources they will give you a very good understanding of what a new webmaster must do and the time frame in which to expect the ability to work full time online. It is also a good idea to find a couple of blogs that have gained good ranking in Google and sign up to become a reader. Personally I am in the make money niche and have found it useful to sign up with the blogs in my niche. If you personally are wanting to set up a tech website or blog then it would be a good idea to read blogs on new technologies. Also find forums that are in your niche these will be filled with webmasters that you will want to work with if you want to succeed online.
After you begin getting into your niche and really getting comfortable speaking with the bloggers and webmasters in the forums it is time to begin researching your competitors. Search google for the words that you would like to be on top for. I run a few blogs on making money and a website and have found it useful to keep up with what my competitors are doing. To find out what link structures they are building I have found it useful to use yahoo?s backlink checker. If you would like to use this tool the all you will need to do is go to yahoo.com and type in link:www.yourcompetitor.com and you will not only find the number of backlinks to your competitors site but also the list. I like to go down this list commenting on the blogs and asking for link exchanges from the websites. If you have the patience and are willing to take the time there is no reason that you cannot out build any of these websites even if they have a hundred thousand backlinks. It will take a lot of time, but as I am sure you have read that is the key to making it as a webmaster.
